day 1 of 30

I wish i'd be able to make a post everyday until the big day but again, i can't do that. Somehow, my work has recently changed requiring more of my time and energy and that means less blogging for me. I am also unable to access my blog at work for some reason i don't know.

So anyway, i went to shercon today with my dad (he's a supportive dad and driver). I was supposed to meet with Benedict for the sample centerpiece flower i asked of him to make (with fee). However, he had some other service to attend to so he just left the flowers to Danica, the receptionist at shercon. When I saw the flowers, i wasn't able to hide my dismay. I just didn't like it. It was so so far from the peg i showed him the last time we had a meeting. I thought then that he was sober but now, seeing the flowers, i guess he wasn't. It was initially just white flowers with twigs but Benedict said he couldn't find nice twigs so i told him it's ok. I'd rather have simple white flowers without twigs rather than having them with twigs that do not look ok. I wanted it to be simple and elegant. But the centerpiece he made wasn't appealing to me at all. After my meeting with Danica, i texted Benedict and told him the things i did and didn't want. I requested him to make another one using my preferred flowers but he said he's still going to make a sched for it as he is really busy these coming days. Anyway, i'll be sending the pegs to danica again and let benedict see it. I'll make sure he'll do what i have asked of him to do or else he's dead or i'm dead :'(

Nevertheless, there were quite a few good things that happened today.

I obtained Rain's wedding bann from Lemery, the last bann we needed to submit to church to make our requirements complete. Yey!

I was able to get the dresses for my 2 flower girls. I actually didn't expect them to look that good but they did with the ribbons, flowers and strap. I wonder how adorable my 2 flower girls will look like wearing them.

Rain is almost finished with our board initials. He's been doing them for weeks now. Due to sched, he was only able to do them during his 2-days off and last weekend he spent his entire day making them. I couldn't believe how he was able create such designs which he got from the net. Yes, he got the design from the net but i couldn't believe how he was able to apply it so beautifully on our own boards.  They were just amazing.

My mom and dad also were able to buy groceries/ingredients that will be used for the food to be cooked for our upcoming pre-wedding event. It's almost 4 wks from now but my mom said buying groceries as early as now not only saves us time but also gives us more convenience than doing it when the holiday is near and people are cramming to buy groceries for their own celebration.

So there, beaneath the darkness there's always light somewhere. I'm happy good things are still happening. :)

d-e-c-e-m-b-e-r, final countdown begins!

30 days to go before our wedding. Can you imagine how time flies so fast? It was 9 months ago when I started this blog hoping I'd be able to put in every detail of our wedding preps for our  dear guests and for our soon-to-be children, to give them something to read on about what has transpired during our wedding preps and the actual wedding itself. I guess I failed to do that, well not a really good blogger here but at least I made a few accounts of what happened during some of those stressful and fun moments of our days.

Anyway, so how are we with our wedding preps? Just when I thought everything's okay, turned out it isn't. (Beware! this is a looong read)

The pianist and violinist we thought were good turned out to be otherwise. I should've thought about it the first time I listened to them but I was still hopeful there'd be an improvement. They're both music teachers by profession and so I really expected so much from them and I was wrong.  Every now and then I had to make follow-ups regarding their music rehearsals which in the first place I shouldn't be doing. If they were professional people this shouldn't be a problem. I had to find pieces of the songs I wanted them to play. I didn't have to do that. They kept on giving me excuses and sometimes even made me feel guilty for not being able to attend to their music classes in order to do rehearsals for my wedding. wth, right? So, when I finally made an arrangement to meet them and hear their music, again, we called Gem (our coordinator) to come with us. I told rain, she had to be with us to back me up if ever I didn't like the song. Gem, has this attitude of being straightforward and blunt that she'd tell you what she wants to say but in a right way, of course. And I'm not like her, although, I tell what I feel, I lack conviction, so I needed her. True enough, when we heard their music, they were not really blending as they were supposed to. The violinist was actually good but their music together wasn't. The pianist blamed it to the piece I gave them, they said it was melody (what now?). Then they put the blame to the organ as the music played in piano is a lot different from it but they do not allow to use their piano as it's too big to be transported. Then the excuses go on and on until Gem finally told them that we're not paying for a service we do not like. We're getting the violin and we're not paying the remaining balance as it will be too much if we do so. The pianist and the violinist had to excuse themselves to have a closed door discussion. When they came back they decided that neither of them will play music on my wedding. They gave us back the downpayment I gave previously (less 1k for the effort they've already exerted). I actually felt kind of relief for getting my money back although I also felt sorry for them but Rain said I shouldn't feel that way. Their music was awful and we couldn't imagine them playing music on our wedding. We have given them a lot of time to practice for the songs (though if they were professionals, they didn't have to) but everytime we hear them, it's as if they never practiced enough. And it was almost a month and a half to go before the actual big day and still they aren't prepared yet. So I stopped thinking about it and was just thankful for sparing our hard-earned money from an awful service. Good thing, Gem has a friend who really plays piano in churches and yesterday, Rain met them and heard their music. There was a violinist too. I had work on weekend so Rain had to take videos of them playing their instruments. When I saw the videos, I was in awe. I asked myself why did I not met them before and spare myself from stress and all the non-stop worrying?? So, we're getting another pianist and violinist again, but this time, I can truly say they were good. (thank God).

Next to list is the dressmaker of my secondary sponsors' dresses. Last JULY, we went to this local couturier as recommended by my HS classmate. She was also the one who made my friend's wedding gown which was nice. Since my entourage are all coming from Lipa, I decided not to get manila-based couturiers as it will be hard for them to travel and do fitting. I've heard she really makes beautiful and well-fitted dresses although according to some, the  main problem with her is that she never makes dresses on time. I thought it wouldn't be a problem. It was JULY when i brought my entourage (including my mom) to have their measurements taken. I also paid 5k downpayment thinking that they will start making the dresses. But no! since i lost track of time and failed to do follow-ups, I learned that she hasn't done them yet. wth?! I went to her 1st week of AUGUST to also ask her to make a gown i'd be using for my prenup. Came my prenup day and it wasn't done yet!! Good thing i lied and told her my prenup was on Aug 30 when it was actually Sept 7. My dress was made on time for my prenup though i'd say it wasn't really perfect. Anyway, I told her that she had to finish the rest of the gowns by end of Oct. I really made it clear to her but time went on and she begged it to be moved by end of NOVEMBER, which is TODAY. So yesterday, my entourage together with rain went to her house for their fitting. (i was at work). They do not have any problem with the fitting, although my sister after seeing her photo became concerned by how it didn't look the way she wanted it to. My mom and rain's aunt's gowns were not sewn yet! wth?? She said she brought her mother to the hospital the day before that's why they were not made. omg! it's been months! for goodness sake! the vest of my bearers were not done yet and the flower girls' gowns were not how I want them to be. That is so frustrating. I had to go to her right after I arrived home from manila earlier today. With me were rain and my sister. We talked to her about my sis's revision on her dress, then the flower girls'. I was told the reason for that is because they were not done yet. The belt, flowers and straps were missing and I was told i can pick them up this afternoon but i lost the energy to go back to her again so I'm planning to do it tomorrow. I was on rage when I ask her why my mom's dress wasn't done yet, she said that her assistant just arrived and that i didn't have to worry because they can finish it in 2 days. what?! i pray it won't turn into a disaster. I was promised that everything will be picked-up on Saturday, Dec5. My oh my.. this is horrible.. but what else can i do but pray.

Then my florist for the church. I thought I have no problem with her. She was the florist of my cousin during her wedding in 2013. She's kind and friendly, she even made beautiful bracelets for our entourage, if you've read it in my previous blog. She offers cheap services yet they were pretty good. So when we booked her last July, i printed copies of pegs for my flowers; my bridal bouquet, entourage and so on... I told her I'm not having flowers to line the aisle, instead, i want white twigs with blings which will be transported to the reception after the ceremony. I printed everything and all she said was OK. And because I was worried, last week, I asked Rain to bring her a cake and ask her to make a sample of the twigs which will be put on the aisle. He did and she agreed. I just wanted to really make sure they can make it. We were supposed to see her today as scheduled but when I called her yesterday, she told me they couldn't find twigs yet during these days, that they have to still go to manila to find some and that they're still looking for a van that they can use. WHAT?? Again, it's been months! what the hell is wrong with these people. Have I been wronged to choose them in the first place. I'm scared, really... it's almost 4 weeks to go before my wedding and everything seems to be going nowhere. I asked her to do everything she can to have it done. I so hope she can.

Then there's our videographer and editor who never replied to our emails and txt messages. We wanted to meet them to talk to them regarding our video preferences. But they just couldn't be reached and the only replies we're getting are apologies coming from their secretary. It's just getting into my nerves. It was never in our plan to actually get this specific videography team but during that time when we booked our photography team, they happened to offer a very good promo at a reasonable price and since they both were managed by one person only, I thought that they'll be great. If i only knew how hard it is to reach them, i should've never booked them at all. I'm willing to pay more for wonderful suppliers. and so now i'm feeling down, so down it's starting to break me.

Then I have Benedict, the florist/stylist for our reception that's included in our package. I asked him if he can make a sample of our guest centerpiece flower. I had to see it because, I just felt i had to. We couldn't agree with a date at first. He said he has several services to attend to but finally, he agreed to meet me tomorrow and I hope something good  will happen.

They say, have faith and everything will fall into place... I'm hoping it will..

Rain+Keng Prenup

We had our prenup/engagement shoot last Sept 7,2015 and as always, I wasn't able to blog about it right on time so I’m doing it now.

We got Betty Uy from Imaginenation Photography as our photographer both for our prenup and for our upcoming big day. She was the photographer of my friend during their wedding and I’ve seen her photos online which were great. Imaginenation actually offers 3 types of photographers depending on expertise. Betty is one of the junior photographers but that doesn’t sound any less from the senior photographers. She’s one of the best and I wasn’t wrong to say that after seeing our prenup photos which I am proud to share with you at the end of this blog.

The night before our prenup, Rain and I were busy preparing the clothes that we’re gonna wear, the props and the food that we will be bringing. I hadn’t gotten enough time to prepare early because I attended my best-friend’s mother’s interment that afternoon. I was actually hoping to cancel our prenup the next day so I can stay with my bestfriend for a little longer but schedules have been made and we know how busy photographers and make-up artists are that's why I couldn’t cancel our appointment. I'm still thankful that at least I was able to attend to her mother's interment.

Part of our contract with Imaginenation is to pick up the photographer from manila to our prenup location (sparing any out of town fee) so Rain and my dad woke up at 2 am in the morning to drive to manila and pick them up. I, on the other hand, woke up around 3 am and got myself ready for my hair and make-up. We booked Romar (Touch of Ada) to be my HMUA both during prenup and wedding. I remembered it was last March, just a few weeks after a friend of mine got married. He was my friend’s HMUA and I was amazed with his work, thus, I booked him as well with no second thoughts. He was easy to talk to and was kind enough to give us a lot of discounts. Anyway, around 5 am, Romar with his assistant, Mark and their driver arrived. I asked them to have breakfast first right after they were done setting up their things. After breakfast, they began to transform me into a beautiful lady ;p

Romar was supposed to come with us  but he said he has some contract signing to attend to in Manila so he left right after he was done with my make-up. His assistant, Mark, stayed to do my retouch.  I asked Rain to fetch us at home before going to Shercon. Around 6 am, they arrived. It was my 2nd meeting with Betty (the first one was last Aug when we talked about our prenup preps). With her was Mark (same name as Romar’s assistant lol) from Imaginenation as well.  After putting everything in the car, we drove to Shercon.

We didn’t actually have any sort of theme for our prenup. I wanted it to be just laid back. We didn't want so much styling. Our first shoot was us wearing a formal attire. I looked and felt fab on my dress maybe because I wasn’t always used to wearing such. Not long after, I began to have painful cramps. So painful I had to ask Betty to stop our photo session so I can rest. I took my meds that Rain bought for me but I had to throw up due to severe pain. At one point I sent a message to my mom telling her about my condition which gotten her all worried and without me knowing she sent my dad to bring me some meds. Aw! By the time my dad came, I was already doing okay and back on my feet again (thank God). Mark did some retouch on my hair and make-up. We had lunch and our photo session resumed. Yey! We spent the next several hours posing, laughing, playing in front of the camera. It was tiring yet full of fun. We ended our prenup shoot at around 5 pm. We headed to Benok’s Lomi House and let Betty and her assistant Mark taste our famous Lomi. While we were eating, Betty gave us a copy of the raw pictures taken during our prenup shoot. I was glad to know that the pictures need not have to be edited as they were already beautiful and clear. After eating, we drove them back to Manila. It was almost midnight when we returned home. We were all exhausted but as we watched our pictures, it felt like everything was worth it. Oh I can’t wait for the big day!

Here, sharing you some of our best shots :)

DIY Prenup Props/ Prenup venue

These my friends are some of the props we'll be using for our engagement shoot this coming Monday, September 7. Thanks to Pinterest for the concepts and more thanks to my h2b- Rain for his creativity, patience and effort for doing them all. I'm not claiming any credit for the creation of these props but I'd like to say I was the one who patiently browse the net to look for ideas that we can possibly use and..that's all:p I'm not an artsy person so you can't really expect me to do all these stuff and I'm just thankful that my h2b is :) We are on a tight budget so a stylist is definitely not on our list and because of that, we have to really exert some effort to style our own e-shoot.

We're having our prenup photo shoot in our wedding venue. I have no doubt our pictures will look fantastic as this place is truly picturesque. We went there last week for the nth time and finally got the time to explore the whole place and noted some of the areas perfect for (photo) shooting. We initially planned to have our prenup done at Shercon in the morning and in the afternoon I wanted us to go to Calatagan beach resort and have a couple shot at the shore while the sun is setting in the horizon. That I consider the most romantic shot. But the travel time is long and we'll have an additional out-of-town fee for our HMUA so we decided to think of an alternative place. I found this Taal Lake and Conservation Center at Balete Lipa. It was only few a km away from Shercon. We went there yesterday and although the place wasn't that amazing, we were told that the sunset view there is really breathtaking. So we booked the place thinking that it's better than paying an out-of-town fee. Rain took some pics of the place and here they are:

My 3rd Gown Fitting

Last Saturday (Aug. 22) at 6pm, I went to Ms Merl's shop again to try my gown that has been repaired according to my request. I was actually nervous to try on my gown, but when I finally did, I saw a bit of improvement. The bust line wasn't that high anymore and they lowered the cut of my gown to my 2nd or 3rd hips. They said they actually followed the cut size of the mannequin this time. They removed the laces so they can change the top again to my desired look. I don't want to say it's perfect because it isn't finish yet but it did look better  now than before . I just hope it will look good once it's done.

Wedding Preps Update

Hey hey hey! I'm back! It's sad to say that no matter how much I wanted to update this blog of ours on time, I just can't make it merely due to work sched and limited time. Too busy this past few days I barely find enough time to even go out and watch a movie but I'm glad I'm enjoying our wedding preps (not all the time though) but so far, doing things for our wedding is somewhat fun, exciting, StreNuoUs, TiRiNg, StrEsSfuL but still FUN :)

So as I said in my previous blog, our scheduled food tasting happened last July 25, 2015. I don't want to say anything else other than the food all tasted good. We just had to change our dessert from panna cota to assorted cheesecake just because the former didn't live up to my expectation, it tasted too bland  and also the assorted fruits have this strong thyme-flavored syrup that Rain and my sister didn't like so we changed it to plain sugar syrup instead.

August 8, 2015 (Saturday) I had my second dress fitting with Ms. Merl and as always I was so excited. This time the laces were already sewn on the gown so it looks a lot different than the first time I wore it. And I had the detachable see-thru lace/ cover-up as well which was beautiful. However, I still wasn't impress with how the gown fits on me. Looking at the pictures, I look flabby (esp.the tummy part) and the bust line.... it's still high... :'( Of course I couldn't show the pics to Rain no matter how much I wanted to. We had to come back the following Monday to talk to Ms. Merl about it. I told her that I didn't like how the gown fits on me, and even if she insisted that they just followed my size, I still asked if they could still do an adjustment to lower the cut so as to define my shape further just like the original gown I wore which was patterned based on a mannequin size. So she took note of it and said that they will make the adjustment just as I requested. Crossing my fingers now, hoping it will turn out fine.

Productive July

I may not have blogged on time about what has been going on with our wedding preps but I'd say that this past few weekends have been quite productive for us. Weekends, because we're only able to do so much during those times due to work but we're proud that they have been quite productive so far.

July 3-6, we spent our long weekend in Cebu. It was my birthday gift for Rain on his 30th birthday. I'll be making a post of that on my other blog.

July 11 (Sat),  we went to Tita Sabel, the dressmaker who's going to make the dresses for my entourage and mothers. She happened to be the Aunt of a HS friend of mine so we were kinda given some discounts on the gowns (wink!) With me were my mom, my sister and my cousin, (all part of my entourage) and my former HS classmate Geli, with her daughter-Jilien (my flower girl). They all had their measurements taken. I told my eldest sister that she can buy her own dress in the US since she's my MOH and she doesn't have to have the same color as my entourage. The only 3 persons who were not able to come with us were my bestfriend from HS, Dane and Rain's sister and aunt who were in Pampanga.

After that, we went to Shercon Resort for a scheduled meeting with Benedict, the florist assigned to do the flower arrangement in our reception venue. We told him about the flowers (for the centerpieces) that we prefer which is mostly just white and told him about how we want the whole venue to look like. Ben seemed to be a nice person as he openly accepted our ideas and suggestions although we could smell alcohol on his breath but he looked sober so I just ignored it.

The following day, July 12 (Sun), Rain and I together with my nephew went to Bella's Flowershop to speak with Ms. Mhalou about the songs which will be played during the wedding. We booked them last June. We're having 1 pianist, violinist, guitarist and 2 vocalists on our wedding. yay! Actually, we were not really planning to have that, however, during that time when we were inquiring about their flower arrangement, I heard Ms. Mhalou playing the violin and I immediately fell inlove with the music that I asked Rain to book that instead. So we ended up booking their music entertainment instead of their flowers. So anyway, we came back last July 11 and provided the songs that we want to be played on our wedding, although incomplete, I told them we'll just come back and give them our complete list of songs once we're done choosing them. My friend, Ana, was also with us. She was my former classmate in HS and college and she promised to sing during my wedding so there, I gave Ms. Mhalou her number so she could text her for rehearsals. weeeee!

Then we went to our wedding church to inquire about the church requirements that we need to accomplish but we were told that it's still early and that we still have to wait 'til Sept to do them. I was also told that only instrumental is allowed during the wedding and I felt sad. Since I was young, have been dreaming of walking down the aisle while my favorite song is being played in the background. I wonder why it's not allowed but I don't want to ask anymore and felt to just oblige. After that, we went hunting for crystal gels as wedding decors and after visiting several places including flower shops, we finally found them at ACE Hardware in Robinsons Lipa at super low price. I immediately got several packets and bought them! I was so happy!

The following weekend, July 18 (Saturday), we were supposed to have our food tasting session with our caterer, Mr. Auster. With me were Rain, my mom, baby Dean and my sister's bf, kuya Andrew. Mr. Auster's place was small and I think is intended solely for food tasting activity, yet it looks cozy. There was a small living room with couch and then a dining area where there was a round table set up. We were asked to sit while waiting for Mr. Auster. Shortly after, he arrived and as he browsed thru his email in his laptop, he asked when we made the schedule. I told him about two weeks ago. Mr. Auster did not know about it. Apparently, the resort did not forward the email to him about our scheduled appointment. He was not notified and because of that, no food was prepared for us. A different client was scheduled on that day. I was so disappointed that I wanted to call the resort personnel and curse them. But Mr. Auster was kind enough to apologize although it was not his mistake. He got our preferred food choices and scheduled our food tasting this coming Saturday, July 25. He also took note of the list of all the things we wanted to have in our wedding reception, like the vases that will be used as centerpieces, the stage, backdrop etc. He said we can discuss this more on our next visit. After that, I was so hungry that I brought my family to SM and had seafood galore at Seafood Island. After everyone was full, we went ahead and met with Ate Minda, our chosen florist for the church. I gave her print-out pictures of the flowers we want to have (yes, I was that OC). I told her that instead of flowers to line the aisle, we're having twigs. I have high hopes that they will make just what we want to have.

July 19 (Saunday), we picked up my bestfriend Dane and her daughter at their house and went to Tita Sabel to have their measurements taken. Now we only have to wait for Ate Charm (Rain's Sister) and Tita Bes (Rain's aunt) for their measurements and everything will be complete. After bringing Dane and her daughter back to their home, we went to San Felipe to see my cousins. I informed 2 of my cousins about them being part of my entourage. My cousins and I spent some time catching up, we ate lunch and just before we go, I went to my ninang's house and informed them that Charles, my cousin, agreed to lend us his blue car for our wedding. However, we were told that it probably was not a good idea. Apparently, his car was not meant for such long travel and I think was made and assembled solely for car show. haha. So, that means Rain and I are now back to looking for a bridal car. At least, we knew this early on so we still have ample time to find one.

Anyway, during that night, my brother started to teach us our wedding dance in the tune of "Timber". I realized that I haven't danced for a long time and it was now a bit hard for me to follow the dance steps yet Rain and I had so much fun. Though I'm not sure if I'd be able to dance that well with my heels and long gown but let's see hehe.

So that's it, so much for a productive July weekend. Will make another post after our Food tasting on Sat. Weeeeeee! so excited!

First Fitting

Last June 24, Wednesday, I had my first gown fitting at Merlene's shop. I was not too excited at first knowing that there is nothing much to be expected during this 1st fitting. I thought that I would be wearing only the inner/underskirt part of the gown (petticoat). We waited a few minutes in her office until Merlene's assistant went out carrying my gown. I was surprised that my gown was almost finished (of course without the lace and beads yet) but the upper and lower part of it has been made. I was so excited, I immediately went to the changing room to wear it right after Rain was ushered outside. He shouldn't be seeing me wearing the gown :)

I was very ecstatic that it didn't matter that the gown was too tight and that the bust part was a bit high. I was caught up in a moment of extreme excitement that I didn't care to notice the difference in it from the design that I chose. Ate Belen (the assistant dressmaker) was busy doing all the measurements on me for repair while I, on the other hand, was busy taking pictures of me on my unfinished gown.

When I went home, I looked back at the pictures I've taken and it was only then that I saw several differences from the original one. Apart from the bust line,  the cut of the gown itself was higher. I immediately texted Ms Shirley (the assistant) that I will be coming back to discuss about these things with them and to not make any major repair yet. They agreed and advised me to come back the following day.

When I returned on Friday, I was told that cut was right and it was just moved up a little bit when I wore it because the waist line was really tight. They did a bit of revision on it and when I fit the gown this time around, the bust line was not that high anymore. I was also given a choice to have "2 looks in 1 gown". Instead of having my top attached to the skirt, they're going to make it detachable so I can have a different gown style during the reception. I told them that's fine with me as long as I'm going to have exactly the same design like the original one. They explained to me how it's going to work and it looks like it's fine so I agreed. In the church, I will be wearing a gown with the same original design and during reception I can take off the upper part (see thru-bolero-type-gown) and replace it with a princess-like shawl. I actually love the idea of wearing it because it makes me feel like a princess (belle to be specific) lol.

I'm happy that my concern has been addressed resolved and now I can continue to sleep happily and dream about the making of my wedding gown. I'm excited for my next fitting which will be in August. Yay!!!

On Wedding Preps: Gown Hunting

For the past months, Rain and I have been looking for wedding gown designers/couturiers here and there. I would ask my friends around, search the net, read on people's blogs etc.

Last February, my cousin and I visited this stall in Landmark Makati that offers RTW wedding gowns made from Korea. I was able to try on some of their gowns. The lady who assisted me gave me 3 different gowns to try on to see what design best suits me. Of
course they were a bit big for my size because these were RTW, remember? :)

I was told this one's called an A-Line type of gown because of its shape that looks like an A. This one's simple, nothing extraordinary.

Trumpet Cut. This one's my cousin's bet for me because it showcases my figure but my sister told me it doesn't fit on me due to my petite/short body frame hehe

This is a balloon type of gown. I like that it has a bare back that makes me look sexy lol but my friends and my parents said I look more like a debutante on this type of gown. I guess I can have the top part of it altered and made into sleeveless one and then have the skirt made into just simple flowy.

Honestly, I really enjoyed my gown fitting session. I didn't know it would be so much fun!

I got this design from the internet. I found it very simple and elegant. Rain and I then made a decision on the amount that we would be alloting for my gown. I told him I can add a few bucks if I have to. I just wanted to wear something beautiful on my special day, after all, this is every girl's dream, to be the prettiest on their wedding day.
Ball-Gown Scoop Neck Cathedral Train Tulle Wedding Dress

Last April, my cousin sent me this link and asked me to check it out: http://www.marche-ph.com/marche-finds/top-14-philippine-wedding-gown-designers/. I read the article and started sending messages to each of the designers I found on this article, inquiring about the cost of their gowns. I also sent them the above design and asked how much it would cost. Of couse as expected, their prices are beyond our budget except for one designer- Emil Ocampo. He was the only one who met our budget so Rain and I immediately made an appointment to meet him. 3 days before our meeting with Emil, I tried searching for other couturiers since I wanted to have other options.

I found one that's located in Makati which is near to my place. I told Rain that I wanted to go there and so he accompanied me the next day. It's Merlene Marcelo's couture. When we arrived at her shop we were ushered to her office and asked to wait there. Her office looks like one of those old spanish-inspired interiors that made me a bit nostalgic. Some of her gowns worn on mannequins were displayed around the corners. After a few minutes, we finally met her. She was nice and I initially had a good feeling about her. She told me her starting price for a customized gown which is...pricey :) I showed her my peg gown. She asked me to try on 2 of her gowns. She called her 2 assistants and brought in two gowns for me to try on. I tried the first one and I felt it was too grandiose.

She called this one as Cascading because it's made of series of laces.

The second one I tried on was called Cavalier because of the intricate details on it specifically the beadings. I liked this one better because it looks more similar to my peg design so I told her I'd be considering this one.

I really like those laces!
It was funny how these 2 gowns fit on me like it was made for me lol. I asked my friends' opinion about what gown looks better on me and they all said the first one does. They all like it even my sisters. I asked Rain and he said the same thing. He just didn't say it during the time of my fitting because he saw how happy I was when I wore the second one. They didn't like that it has a high neckline and it hides my shoulder blades. They told me that the Cascading gown looks really beautiful on me and is not as grandiose as I think it is. They said it's simple but elegant. My sister said it's fascinating and timeless, wow!

After giving some thoughts on it, I finally decided to choose the Cascading gown. But Merlene's price was still beyond our budget so we went to Emil as scheduled, that was May 24.

Emil's shop was smaller compared to Merlene's but it was full of his clients when we arrived. I didn't wonder why considering the fact that he was one of the top designers included in a previously released article. When it was our turn, he asked for my peg gown and I showed her the first peg gown that I got from the internet and then the Cascading one made by Merlene. He was so amazed with the Cascading gown and he said he can make it for me (in an affordable price). After leaving Emil's shop, I told Rain I felt a bit bad about having someone else make a gown that was designed by a different person and so I decided to go back to Merlene and do some negotiation.

When we came back to Merlene, she agreed to make the gown for a reasonable price with the same fabric and all and so finally we made a deal. I just told her that I want it to be in Ivory white instead of champagne so it will look more like a wedding gown. We went home and sent our deposit to her account and after 2 weeks we went back to her shop to have my measurements taken.

We will be coming back sometime on the third week of this month for my first fitting. Yayy!! This is so exciting! I just wish the final gown will look perfect on me.

Goodbye to my 1st choice of SDE song

Remember my last post about how much I wanted the song "You Are Mine"  by Spencer Combs  for our SDE? And remember what I said about it being so familiar? It turned out it was the same song used by one of my friends on her SDE video. Funny, huh? Why did I not remember that? But I remember liking their SDE video after seeing it during their wedding last March. After having watched a lot of SDE videos, I said I like theirs the most and maybe because it was the song! I just realized it when I told Rain that the song really was familiar and I went over thru my friend's timeline and watched her video and I was right. It was their SDE song. Although there is nothing wrong if we use the same song for our SDE but still I want something different, a song that hasn't been used in any SDE video yet.

So now I'm back to hunting the perfect song for our on-site video (and a list of songs for the wedding day program). I'm getting a bit pressured now because 5 months have already gone and there are so so much more things to do. Although I have booked most of my suppliers already including my wedding gown, yeey! and that I will tell more on my next post, I still feel tense and worried. We're not halfway yet on our DIY projects, we haven't met and talked to our suppliers regarding our wedding theme plans/suggestions, I still have to find suppliers for 1. Flowers 2. Entourage 3. Bridal Car 4. Dessert Bar 5. Acoustic/Band 6. Rings!

So if you happen to read this blog, I hope you can help me by at least providing me some songs I could choose from for our SDE.

Thank you so much!

Whom to invite??

We're supposed to have 120 guests only but we have to allot extra for our suppliers and "uninvited guests". Yes, that's right. I was told that eventhough we're going to be really strict with the number of guests who will be coming on our wedding, we can't have control over unexpected guests so we decided on having a total of 150 guests. I thought listing down the name of the guests we're inviting would be easy but it wasn't. Then one day, I found this pic on one of the blogs I came to visit. Thought it will be a big help to me since I'm really having a hard time choosing my guests. lol

So for those who are like me, hope you find this one helpful too!

The chosen song for our SDE

Eversince Rain and I started with all the wedding planning and preps, I have been looking for the right songs (for our SDE, wedding program) and I came to notice how difficult it really was. I told Rain that for our SDE, I want a song that isn't too loud and perky. I want it to be a bit dramatic and touching in a sense. There is nothing wrong with a lively music but I've seen several music videos and same day edit and I most certainly like the ones with melodramatic music with powerful lyrics. I find them more captivating than the loud ones I guess that's because I am an emotional person (okay, I admit it now) lol

A few days ago, when Rain and I were watching the 22nd episode of The Middle Season 6, I finally heard the song that definitely fits our Same Day Edit. It wasn't new and I think I've already heard it before but I just couldn't remember. I instantly liked it as the music and lyrics were so so so perfect for our SDE.

So before I totally forget this song, when I went to work that night, I referred to my bestfriend (google) and searched for its title and lyrics. I then watched the full music video at youtube and I just couldn't help myself from falling in love with it. I liked it so much and so I am doing a post about it now. I wish I can upload a video of it but I'm so new to blogging I don't know how to do it so I am just going to post the lyrics so you guys can have an idea on why I fell in love with this song.. Oh I can't wait to watch our dream onsite wedding video with this as the background song.

You are mine by Spencer Combs (Feat. Holley Maher)

There is no words to show you how
No song that's come from David's crown
I could take my sole and pour it out
At your feet, but I'll wait patiently, for you

Oh I will, forever and always
Put you before me, to the end of time
But until then, 'til my last breath rolls in
Oh I am yours and you are mine

My heart beats for you alone
No house can hold the love that we own
Everytime you fall from grace to your knees
I'll wait patiently, for you

Oh I will, forever and always
Put you before me, to the end of time
But until then, 'til my last breath rolls in
Oh I am yours and you are mine

Oh someday we'll see
What forever means
My love

Will you agree with me when I say this song is so lovely?

We just got confirmed!

Last May 9, Saturday, Rain and I had our confirmation at Mary Mediatrix of All Grace Parish. Straight from night shift, we just had our breakfast at home and went straight to the church. Our primary sponsor, my aunt, arrived shortly after us. The ceremony took about an hour and a half after which we went to a resto and had a late lunch together. Quite a day, one task accomplished.

The Confirmation Seminar

As part of the Catholic Church requirements, Rain and I must have our Confirmation and before we are allowed to have this, we must first attend a confirmation seminar which we did last Saturday, April 18, 2015.
Rain and I actually did not prepare anything for the seminar. We didn't spend time to read and get info about what might be discussed prior so we totally had limited information about the topic. We thought that it would be just like any other seminars we attended before where in the speaker will be the one to talk everything about the subject and apparently, we were wrong about that.
With our requirements on hand, we arrived on time for the seminar. It was held in a conference room beside the church of Mary Mediatrix of All Grace which is where our wedding ceremony will be held in Dec. There were about a total of 8 attendees including us. I was surprised that Rain and I were the only adult ones there. The rest were teenagers (ages 11-13 y/o).
After finding our respective seats, without even introducing himself, the speaker started to ask someone to lead the opening prayer.  Because I was the oldest there, I did the prayer. After that, he began to ask questions, “What confirmation is, why we are there”.  Rain gave an answer but it seemed that he was not satisfied so he repeated the question and said that if no one will answer, we won't move on. This provoked my inner anger and so was the person in the back who happened to be the father of one of the attendees. He stood up and bravely told the speaker that he’s doing it the wrong way. He told him that the attendees went to the seminar to learn and not to be questioned upon. I bowed my head in agreement but what was irritating was that the speaker answered him back in a defensive and domineering manner, like he knew what he was doing and all. So the man asked for his name (which the speaker gave) and took his daughter away. Before leaving, he told him that he will speak to the priest for that but the speaker did not seem to care at all.
We spent the rest of the day listening to him and trying our best to give him the answers to his questions. I decided not to differ with his ways anymore and just go with it because we had to. We needed the confirmation cards to be able to attend the actual confirmation on May 9. To suit myself, I just ignored the annoyance I felt, tried to internalize and ask questions, make comments, and laugh to his jokes. Before we knew it, 2 hours had passed and the seminar was over.  I offered to make the closing prayer after which our confirmation cards were distributed to us.
We were thankful that the seminar has ended and we are now halfway to getting our confirmation. Although, it felt like a bit of old school, I’m still thankful for all that I have learned and re-learned. So for those people who will be attending the confirmation seminar, and if you will have it in the same church like ours, I suggest doing your homework first, research on the topic so that you get to give the correct answers which in turn will help cut out the time spent in the seminar.
More church requirements for us to fulfill! Whew!

On Wedding Preps: Starting our DIY Project!

We have two reasons for coming up with our DIY project. 1. We want our wedding to be “uniquely” us and 2. We’re on a tight budget and doing such will probably lessen the cost of our total wedding expenditures.

I was the one who picked our wedding theme. I thought that Frozen-themed wedding was cool so we came up with a winter-themed wedding. Our color motif: icy blue with a touch of silver. Rain said it was ok and even thought of it as classy and pretty.

So after several researches on webs and magazines about designs and creations related to our wedding theme, we came up with the following and these, by far, are the ones we’ve just recently started and are still on the process of making.

1. Guest Favors

Nowadays, I notice that most wedded couples opt to rent photo booths and let their guests have multiple photos of themselves and consider these as their wedding souvenirs. It’s unique because you get to choose the lay out that you want in the photo paper. Guests can also properly take care of these keepsakes by placing them on their photo albums or putting them up in frames unlike the conventional souvenirs such as figurine displays, collectibles, and candles etc. which only get dusty over time.

In addition to having a photo booth on our wedding, we wanted to give our guests a bit more as a token of appreciation for their presence. We thought of something that will have a unique touch of our theme but won’t have to be expensive. Then I found an old box of perfume that my sister gave me and Rain used it as a sample to create more boxes. We just bought the right paper, got some snowflake puncher, scissors, glue and hola! We’ve got our giveaway box! We’re filling it with chocolate kisses in blue wrap.

As I was writing this blog, Rain has already made about 21 boxes already so he still has 129 boxes to make haha!

2.  Winter wedding decors
We found this picture in Pinterest and I found this really exquisite. Wine bottles as centerpieces, painted in white with bottom covered with Epsom salt, beautiful, right?

Here’s another one. Clear vases with twigs, simple and fascinating! I would love to have these on my tables.
Rain and I went to Divisoria one Saturday and looked for bottles and mason jars that we can use. We found some and bought them. We were supposed to buy twigs as well but they’re heavy so we just planned to buy them on our next visit.

We haven’t started doing this project yet as we’re still searching on where to buy Epsom salt (if it's being sold here in our place)

3. Wrist band/ bracelet for our secondary sponsors

When Rain and I did a survey on the cost of flower arrangement, we were really surprised to know how expensive it really was so I looked for an alternative to flowers starting off with my entourage. Instead of a bouquet of flowers I thought of giving them wrist bands and I found this lovely picture in the internet.

During our visit in Divisoria, I was happy to find an almost the same snowflake designs in one of the stores and I immediately bought them! We bought ribbons and other stuff too. We’re still figuring out how to come up with a beautiful wristband just like the picture above so this project is also pending for now.

Of course we also want our entourage to have something in return for their special roles in our wedding. Still in Divisoria, we found this store that sells all kinds of beads and I thought that it will be great to create/customize bracelets for our entourage. I am proud to say that these were already done and were specially made by Rain!

We’re still thinking of what to give for the boys!

4. Table numbers and Escort cards

For table numbers and escort cards, we are yet to decide what paper to use but to begin with, I got these pictures from the internet.

We’ll be using them as samples. Below are the stuff we thought we could use in making them.

glitters and cut-out snowflakes

So there goes our own DIY Project! I’m sure we still have more to come up with. I just hope everything will be done just right on time for our wedding. Oh well, there are still more that we can do in 9 months, right? Wish us luck!
